Executive Coaching Fees: What Affects the Cost of Coaching?
How much does executive coaching cost?
Executive coaching fees depend on coach’s experience, depth of work, use of psychometrics and level of support you need. Here we explain what affects executive coaching costs and how to judge value — not just price.
What affects coaching costs?
What does coaching cost?
Costs depend on the coaching you need. To start, what is your focus – life or work?
Life coaches cost less and deal with, well, life. These are personally oriented sessions, supporting areas like resilience, personal growth and goal achievement. For comparison life coaching costs anything from £150 ($200) -£300 ($400) an hour.
Executive coaches are more specialised with sophisticated working, typically costing at least 2 -3 times this. They utilise a broader skillset and experience covering many areas; corporate working, HR – L&D, roles & responsibilities, competency matrices.
At the higher end are leadership coaching costs. Their significant experience enables a mix of mentoring, as well as their bread and butter of developing leadership awareness and skills. They develop work dynamics, and deal with typical corporate issues – politics, collaboration, delegation, culture as well as work-life issues. This greater range and depth can lead to significant financial and performance gains, often quite rapidly, hence the higher session fees.
What's the coaching value - how to measure ROI
Explore the value of what coaching can do for you.
We help clients understand their value and where coaching can make most difference to them – not simply financially. A good coach will focus on outcomes and their success measurements from the start so you can be clear about return on investment.
This includes understanding what would happen if you didn’t achieve these goals or what would you stand to lose. Coaching can accelerate performance worth hundreds of thousands to millions.
The power of fine-tuning the performance of leaders cannot be underestimated
Business leaders who improve their performance may affect entire organisations, their workforce, clients, suppliers, and wider industries – so the value added must be seen broadly -as affecting every part of the business.
What level of expertise do you need ?
Like most things, the best costs more. Luckily, the evidence of great coaching should be self-evident – felt almost immediately with results following close behind. If you don’t feel or see a difference in a few sessions, then it’s not working for you. Additionally if you require the full range of skills from your coach; corporate expertise, business acumen, psychological development, mentoring all wrapped up in a friendly but strong advocate for you with 15-20 years corporate experience, then be prepared to pay at the top end of executive coaching fees.
TIP: Focus on the value you’ll gain – see it as a high return investment
How psychometric evaluations add value
Could you benefit from expert and often profound insight into how you work — and how others experience you?
If you’re in a senior role, hold significant influence, or work in an environment where mistakes are costly, the answer is almost certainly yes. Emotional intelligence (EQ) assessments cleverly uncover what matters most — fast. They save time, reveal blind spots, and help align people more effectively to their roles. We use sophisticated EQ assessments not as add-ons, but as accelerators that act as a road-map to success.
They create clarity and momentum — grounding coaching in real data, and focused insight.
Without them, coaching conversations can take longer, be less informative or structured. Yes, assessments come with an additional cost — but can increase coaching efficiency and impact significantly, ultimately achieving more and saving your time and money.

Executive Coaching Fees FAQs
How much does executive coaching cost in the UK and US?
Executive coaching fees vary widely by country, coach experience, client seniority and the depth of the work. In the UK, experienced executive coaching is often quoted from around £300–£900+ per session, with senior leadership coaching usually at the higher end.
In the US, executive coaching fees are generally higher, with experienced C-suite or specialist coaches charging upwards of $800–$1,200+ per hour. Leadership programmes involving EQ assessments such as the EQ-i 2.0 and detailed analysis, feedback and ongoing coaching usually cost more than simple one-off coaching sessions.
Why are executive coaching fees higher than general coaching fees?
Do psychometric assessments increase coaching costs?
Yes. Psychometric assessments can increase the initial cost because there is the assessment itself which coaching companies may have to pay for, the time and expert interpretation and analysis, preparation, recommendations and a feedback session. Used well, however, psychometric assessments make coaching far more focused, precise and efficient. They help reveal strengths, blind spots, emotional intelligence patterns, stress responses, communication style and likely leadership impact much earlier and more precisely than conversation alone.
Is executive coaching worth the cost?
How many coaching sessions do senior leaders usually need?
A single session may help clarify or even resolve a specific issue, but meaningful leadership development usually requires more than one conversation. The best executive coaching programmes can address immediate issues while also giving leaders a fuller work-up of their emotional intelligence, confidence, presence, stress resilience, communication, relationships and behavioural patterns. EQ mastery programmes typically run from 8–12 sessions as a minimum, because change comes through insight, practice, reflection, feedback and applying new behaviour in real situations.
What affects leadership coaching fees?
The coach may need to help the leader map relationships, understand political dynamics, prepare conversations, handle conflict, influence more effectively or repair trust. These require expertise and sophisticated working.
In addition it's important the coach understand and can help navigate culture, strategy, team dynamics, pressure, performance issues, change, succession, role expectations or HR sensitivities. That requires more judgement, preparation and experience than generic coaching.
What makes EQ coaching different?
EQworks coaching combines emotional intelligence assessments, psychometric analysis, leadership experience and practical behavioural development as well as practical support in resolving issues and navigating challenges.
This is far more than simply talking through issues. It's a structured approach to help leaders understand themselves, understand others, read situations more clearly and build the resources to be exceptional leaders with better judgement, confidence, resilience and impact.
Do we work with US and international executive coaching clients?
Yes. EQworks works with UK, US and international clients both face-to-face and online. Given the specialist nature of our emotional intelligence and psychometric coaching work, this has become increasingly common. Executive coaching, EQ-i 2.0 feedback and leadership development can be delivered highly effectively online, while face-to-face coaching can also be arranged internationally where appropriate.
