It can be used as one of several important indicators to understand an organisation’s performance. It can give clues as to issues, employee relations, cultures and working conditions for example.  Interestingly it’s been suggested more recently that with an employee’s increased pressure to ‘retain employment’ they might feel more pressure to come to work when they’re ill. Sickness Absence figures are declining in some organisations, but it’s not always clear about the exact reasons.
