Mantras help you lead effectively.

Steve Jobs’s said ‘Think Differently’.

He asked people to step outside of their current thinking – be more – look beyond. It’s a powerful frame of thinking especially in technology companies where innovation is key.

-Elon Musk’s ‘First Principles’ is a powerful way to frame thinking too – to start from fact, be guided by evidence and known truths. It helps us avoid skewing beliefs and assumptions.

-Jeff Bezos’ ‘Focus on the long term’ – seems to be a simple but powerful operating mantra at Amazon.

It reinforces patience, strategic thinking, and resisting short-term pressure.

These are all great examples of the power of a mantra.

The Power Of A Mantra

A mantra provides focus under pressure, reinforces positive beliefs or values and aligns people behind a shared purpose.

It isn’t just for billionaires though. Leaders and organisations of all sizes can benefit just as much from a clear, memorable mantra that captures who they are or where they’re heading.

A strong mantra helps:

  • Anchor self-belief when it matters most
  • Build resilience when feeling challenged.
  • Align values and purpose for teams to build engagement with passion to get it done.

It doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact, the simpler and more repeatable, the better. Do you already have one you use for yourself, your team, or your business?

If so, I’d love to hear about it – happy to share it below?
